Worship Leaders Announced |
 |
|
|
|
I'm beyond excited to report that Jonathan and Melissa Helser will be leading worship at For the Love Workshop- Oregon!!!
When I first received the vision for For the Love Workshop, I knew that worship was going to be the key to the release of creativity and the love of God. Boy, was that the case for For the Love- Tennessee, or what?! I can't even begin to describe how amazing worship was. (You can read some of the testimonies from past attendees below).
So, as I began preparing for For the Love- Oregon, I knew that I wanted to really hear from God about who should lead worship. I had originally planned on leading worship myself, and bringing in instrumentalist who were also photographers in the industry. For some reason, I never had a real peace about it. So, I decided to use that idea as my back-up plan. In the meantime, I could not get this husband-wife worship team out of my head. I had first come into contact with Jonathan and Melissa last July. They led worship at a worship festival in my town. During their set, my heart was completely wrecked by God's love. All of my striving and works were stripped away. All that was left was a beautiful daughter who was hungry to please her Daddy. I purchased all of their songs on itunes and have had numerous life-changing moments in my car since then. I seriously encourage you to download some of their songs.
So, on a whim a couple of weeks ago I sent Melissa Helser an email to see if they would be interested in leading worship at FTL-Oregon. I knew it was a long shot, but all things are possible with God, right? I had to remind myself that this is obviously His workshop. I knew that if it was His will, then it would all work out. Sure enough, today Melissa called and confirmed that they would be able to lead worship for us. I was, and still am, overwhelmingly excited. I am in awe of how God has orchestrated this entire workshop. I am confident that whoever attends, will be completely blessed and radically touched by God. I don't know about you, but I'm counting down the days until November 1st!
**Jonathan's song, "Intimacy" is on For the Love Workshop- Oregon's promo video. Believe me....this is just a tiny taste of what is going to be experienced in November.
Thanks,
Ginny Corbett

Here is a guest post by Chelsea Giles. She has a smile that will light up a room and love for God like no other. Her testimony especially touched my (Ginny) heart, because I remember Chelsea's transformation at For the Love 02-10 like it was yesterday. She experienced so much freedom there...and I LOVE that!!
----------------------------------------------------
For my testimonial, I want to copy over what I wrote in my personal journey while I was in Tennessee. The words I wrote while I was there bring truth and courage to me even now.
An excerpt from my journal I kept while in Tennessee-
“February 9, 2010.
I cannot even believe what the Lord is doing here. I have been experiencing the Holy Spirit like never before in my life. During worship today, I called on the Lord to send satan away from me and take away my fear. AND HE DID. I felt a peace like I haven’t in a long time. I can talk to people, I can be myself. God has smiled on me and He has set me free. If I don’t take anything else from this week, it’s this truth: God can change me. Do not be afraid.”
He can change you too, if you’ll only let Him. |

How It All Started |
 |
|
|
 |
|
|
|
Here's the story of how For the Love Workshop came to be:
One morning, last October (2009), I was spending some time in worship and reading my bible. There was nothing in particular on my heart, I was just spending some morning time with Jesus. At that point in time, I had just transitioned into full-time photography after being an elementary teacher. Every day was a new day...a new journey...new uncharted territory. I felt like a pioneer; cutting the path towards my destiny one step at a time. Often times, I was unsure of where I was going. It felt like the "shrubs" were blocking my view, and sometimes I was aiming in the dark. There were (and still are) SO many things that were confusing to me. I had so many questions as a beginning full-time photographer. I was overwhelmed; I didn't know where I should go or what I should do next.
As I was spending time with the Lord, I realized that his view of my life was much clearer than mine. If I was the sheep, he was the shepherd and he could stand taller than me and see where I should go. With that same analogy in mind; going back to my original vision, I knew that even though the shrubs of confusion were tall in my mind, I knew that He was much bigger and if I just asked, He would help me go down the right path.
So, as I was praying that October morning, it felt like God all of the sudden plugged me into His heart through a USB chord. (I know that picture is a little weird, but that's what I felt like. It was a lot like when I plug my card reader up to my computer and hundreds of pictures begin streaming onto my hard drive...it was exactly like that). He began to lay on my heart a workshop that had many facets....many benefits....many concentrations.
The first benefit was that it would be nestled in a secluded location. It would serve as a vacation week for exhausted photographers. Not many people can afford the luxury of taking exotic vacations while investing in lenses, workshops, and other business expenses. I knew that For the Love would be the "exotic" vacation many burned out photographers would experience. I knew that it needed to be in some of the most beautiful places in the United States. I wanted to be able to look out my window and see mountains...hear rivers. I wanted to go to a place where I could take a walk with my camera and only hear nature. I wanted a location where my soul could find rest. I wanted a place that was far from the hustle and bustle of every day life...a place where I could really concentrate on the Father.
The next benefit was that this workshop would bring in multiple influential photographers that trusted God with their business. I knew that there were so many wonderful workshops out there, but many of them only had one main photographer. Though that is wonderful, I knew that that one photographer only had one point of view to share from. I wanted to bring in several AMAZING photographers that could cover a wide span of photography content. I wanted the teachers to have different giftings so that they could really teach what they know....what they are known for, and the attendees could benefit. I wanted the teachers to spend quality time with the attendees....eat breakfast together, go on adventures with one another, pray for each other, and worship together. I knew that "learning" wouldn't be confined only to a classroom setting...it would happen in day-to-day conversations.
Another benefit of this workshop, which is very valuable, would be the relationships that are built between all those that attended (teachers and attendees alike). I have found that one of the most valuable resources I have is my friendships with other photographers. If I ever have a problem or a question, they are the first I contact. I knew that a workshop that interlaced time with God and photography would breed friendships that would last for a lifetime.
Lastly, most importantly, I knew that if you acquired all the knowledge in the world, but didn't have guidance from God, then you would still remain lost. Even if you had the most amazing teaching from the best photographers in the world....you would still be lost on your journey without guidance from God. Just imagine how much money you would save if you knew exactly what you needed to invest your money in. How many thousands of dollars would you be able to keep in your bank account if you knew where to take your business and what resources you needed to invest in. You would know longer have a "hit or miss" experience. All of the above benefits are great...they certainly make for an amazing workshop in and of themselves. But including God in our business is a benefit that will make your business to prosper in ways you couldn't imagine.
Deut. 5:33
"Walk in all the way that the Lord God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you possess."
So, that's basically how it happened. I was just a photographer in Greenville, NC who caught a vision from God and ran with it. You would be amazed at how much He blesses you when you step out in faith.
We had the first workshop in February in the Smoky Mountains. It was an experience like no other. To this day, all the attendees still keep in touch and encourage one another. We spent a week together, got completely rocked with great teaching and received guidance from the Lord about our business. Some of the attendees found out that instead of doing wedding photography, they should do family photography. Some photographers found out that they weren't called to full-time photography in the first place. Can you even imagine how many years of frustration they were saved from by coming to For the Love? We even have a forum for the For the Love attendees where we post things that we need prayer for. I love that the teachers are still involved with answering questions on the forums. We now have a community of Christian photographers who doing this thing together!
When you come to For the Love Workshop...you no longer have to worry about walking this thing alone. You will have a safety net of fellow Christian photographers that will love you enough to give you advice on your next steps. You will leave with opened eyes and a refreshed heart. That is a benefit that you can't put a price tag on.
I'd love to hear you thoughts. Leave some love in the comments section. Thanks!

I believe this video sums up what we are going to experience in Oregon on Nov. 1-5th better than anything else. Can you just imagine the peace you are going to feel when you wake up to the sounds of a rolling river....the freedom you are going to feel when you worship God surrounded by other photographers who have the same passion and struggles as you....the inspiration you are going to experience while learning from Mike Larson and Zach and Jody Gray all week. I don't know about you.....I'm ready! |

Here is one of my favorite testimonies by the amazing Lauren Clark. Lauren was one of the teachers at the last For the Love Workshop. When she was asked to teach at For the Love, I'm sure she didn't anticipate that her entire life would change! Read her story below:
-----------------------------------------------
When Ginny first called me about For the Love, I have to admit, I thought it would be fun, but didn't think it would really change anyone's life. Little did I know, that this workshop with 25 people would change MINE. I went to FTL feeling burned out and confused. I was confused about the direction I should take my business. I was kind of apathetically hopeless in my photography, and when I left everything had changed.
The amount of time spent in worship was something that I wasn't use to. I mean, I like worship, but I was used to singing the first, second, and last verse and this style of worship pushed me out of my comfort zone. I didn't really know the power of prayer and worship until the end of the week, after we had basked our hearts and minds in it.
One of the attendees, Maria, wanted to pray over the speakers. She asked everyone to put their hands on us and when they started praying I heard a voice, yes, it was internally audible (you know how you can talk in your mind and actually hear yourself talking? It was like this, but involuntary, and it was a man's voice....seriously, I wouldn't make this up!) and He said, "You don't have to be a wedding photographer anymore". Immediately, peace came like a river and my heart began to beat very hard and I asked in my head, "Then what will I do?", and He said, "Children and Families". It was like I had just won the lottery. I had to step back and take that step of faith, in front of everyone! So, after everyone prayed for us, I told them that I would no longer be a wedding photographer! They all cheered because they knew how burned out I was with weddings. I felt hope and restoration, finally!
So, I am no longer accepting weddings and am pushing full steam ahead into the unknown waters of children photography with faith that the Lord will provide to those who trust in Him and obey His voice. For The Love changed my business, my life, and my marriage. I think that every Christian photographer should attend this workshop! What could happen to you?
Thanks! Lauren |

Here's a phenomenal testimony by Andrea Crosswhite. She is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet. Make sure you connect with her through her website or blog. She's a great photographer to follow.
-------------------------------------------------------
I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to be apart of the very first 'For The Love Workshop'. I honestly didn't know what to expect since this was my first workshop and I knew it wasn't going to be the 'typical' workshop. It was exactly what I needed to start the year off on the right foot. It opened my eyes to see that God wants to be apart of every aspect of my life. I learned so much about using photography to glorify Him. It was very refreshing to be with fellow believers who also share the same passions & struggles. For The Love Workshop is perfect for photographer's who not only want to fine tune their photography skills, but also build friendships and grow spiritually. |

--------------------
Though I can talk on and on about the awesomeness of this retreat, here's a snippet of truth: The moment I heard about "For the Love" through Lauren and Erik's blogs, I knew that the Lord wanted me to invest my time there seeking Him, improving on the talents He's given me. I was torn between going to WPPI or attending a workshop, but Ginny's vision for "For the Love" made my decision a no-brainer. It was the first spiritual retreat I had been on since High School and I've missed those times of renewal. I wanted to be renewed in my relationship with God. Between being a wife of a youth minister, working two full time jobs and being an adult in general - I have neglected the Lord. My heart wanted to seek after Him and I was blessed to attend this retreat. It wasn't earth-shattering, it wasn't over-the-top - it was a genuine time seeking God, feeling close to God, and having fellowship with other believers. God doesn't want to be just one segment of your life - He wants to be in all of it: your relationships, your business, your hobbies, everything. That's why I loved this retreat: It was a time to interact with God through our fellowship, our praise, our prayers and our passions. (and the teaching wasn't too bad either (LOL) - whatever it was awesome too!) |

When reflecting on For the Love Workshop, I am left speechless. I have so much to say and so much to show you. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to pour out my heart at this moment, but I would love to show you a silly sequence with Erik Clausen (Poser), Lauren Clark, and me (Ginny Corbett). If this doesn't sum us up, then I don't know what would. I love it!

Trip to Pigeon Forge...Day 2 |
 |
|
|
|
I believe I mentioned yesterday that it had started snowing here in Pigeon Forge, TN. I ended up getting snowed in lastnight, and had to eat dinner out of the vending machines...yum!
This morning, the plan was to drive towards Cherokee, NC to view some of the mountain scenary, but the roads were closed. That seemed to be the theme of the day...I would drive approximately 7 miles towards a destination only to find out that the roads were closed due to the snow.
Do you think that stopped me from exploring the area and capturing a few pics? No way! There's ALWAYS good pictures to be captured...it's just a matter of getting out of your car and looking around. I really had a great time soaking in the solitude. I was so thankful for the intimate time with the Father. He loves spending time with His children. (You should try it some time.)
Here's a few of my favorites from today...

Trip to Pigeon Forge...Day 1 |
 |
|
|
|
I wanted to give you a quick update on my trip to Pigeon Forge....
Last night I flew into Nashville. Originally, I was planning on attending Imaging USA's pre-convention classes, but I decided to spend the rest of the week in Pigeon Forge to pray for the workshop and finalize our plans. Boy, am I glad I did. I have spent the entire day soaking up God's beauty. It has been GREAT!
Right when I got to Pigeon Forge, I met Audia (she works for the Preserve Resort). She led me up the mountain. Keep in mind...my rental car is a tiny Ford Focus, AND it's starting to snow. I was a little nervous to say the least. The cabins are practically at the TOP of the mountain. As I was following her, I kept expecting us to reach the top (or fall off the mountain), but the road continued to wind up and around the mountain. It was really scary looking towards the passenger side of the car, because if you ran off the road, even a little bit, you would surely "meet your maker".
So, we finally arrived at the resort. It was perfect! It's basically a strip of log cabins ranging from one bedroom up to 12. Our cabin is the second to the last. There's a cute white chapel, a patio with at least 20 rocking chairs, a meeting place, and a gym on the property. It's great!
Our cabin, the Sequoyah Manor, is 3 stories tall! You walk in on the second floor; you walk right into the kitchen. (My mom and aunts are doing our cooking...I can't wait for you to meet them!) There are 2 huge wooden picnic tables...that's where we are going to eat. There are 4 bedrooms on the second floor, a good sized living room, and a back deck that is breath-taking!
The 1st floor is my favorite. That is where we are going to have our worship services and our big meetings. It's a wide open room (technically a "theater" room). I believe there are 4 bedrooms on this floor. There are also 2 jacuzzi's on the back deck! I don't know about you, but I'm definitely bringing my bathing suit!
The 3rd floor is also amazing! It has 4 bedrooms as well. The boys are definitely going to want the 3rd floor. There is an air hockey table and a pool table. The 3rd floor also has a living room. Just like the other floors, there is an amazing back deck that overlooks the Great Smoky Mountains. I'm definitely going to spend a lot of time soaking in the beauty of the outdoors on our trip.
After I viewed the cabin, I (very slowly) went down the mountain to find some local food. It ate at this amazing pizza place called "American Pizza and Video". It was in a red barn, and looked like a cute country restaurant on the inside. By this time, the snow was starting to come down pretty heavy. So, I decided to visit only one attraction...
Audia told me about a place called Metcalf Bottoms Park. I would've never found if it wasn't for her. I was a little nervous, because the snow was starting to stick to the ground and I was weaving all around the mountains. I'm sure you understood how desperate I was to photograph nature...I just had to go on!
So, I made it to Metcalf Bottoms....there was a gorgeous stream flowing. It sounded like heaven. There was snow covering the ground...not a soul in sight. I was able to spend 30 minutes exploring the area by myself (thank goodness bears are hibernating right now!). It was perfect. So perfect that I'm actually going to go back tomorrow.
Here's a few pictures....

Lastly...continue to stay connected. We are definitely having more "For the Love" Workshops in the future. I would love for you to be the first to find out.
Congratulations, Alison!

Something to Look Forward To |
 |
|
|

Just imagine...
The busiest part of last year's photography season is over.
You finally have a break from the stress.
You wake up every morning to the smell of fresh coffee in a cozy mountain cabin.
You step outside to breathe in the fresh mountain air, but you are stunned by the amazing landscape of God's creation in front of you.
You meet new friends over breakfast...friends who are passionate about the same things you are passionate about.
You spend intimate time in worship before starting your day.
You head out to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with your 3 favorite things...camera, bible, and journal.
You seek God's advice as to what your next business move should be.
You spend time with your creator.
You learn from the Father how to see things differently.
You capture images in new ways...ways you've never seen before.
You head back to the cabin...ready to learn...ready to soak...ready to get new strategies to apply to the business plan God gave you.
You attend classes with Erik Clausen and Lauren Clark.
They teach you lighting strategies, posing styles, marketing ideas, photoshop techniques, workflow...
You apply what you learned by photographing beautiful models with one of the most amazing natural backdrops on the Earth.
You unwind by getting into more worship led by Meredith Andrews.
You continue to write down business strategies as they flow from heaven through your pen.
You find yourself refreshed.
You find yourself relieved.
You find yourself feeling lighter than when you first came, because you have experienced that "His yoke is easy and His burden is light".
You find yourself full of joy.
You find yourself balanced, not controlled by your circumstances...controlled by God.
You find yourself excited again.
You find yourself passion passionate again.
You find that your mind is clear...ready to take on the next busy season.
You find yourself....changed.
This is what we believe you will experience when you come to For the Love Workshop this Feb. This is not an ordinary workshop. This is a spiritual retreat where you "seek the kingdom first". This is also a workshop where you will learn from the best. This is a place where you will experience the life-changing power of God as He guides your steps.
Seats are filling up fast. Reserve your spot today. |
